Circus ants…. (or what happens when biologists have too much time on their hands)

Just found a great story from a group trying to work out how ants know how far they’ve gone… It seams they do this by counting the number of steps they’ve taken. How do you test this? If you glue little stilts to their legs to make them longer they end up overshooting their destination… I feel kind of sorry for the student who had to do the gluing.
